outlook error

getting an error in outlook that says: The add-in "c:\program files\network
associeates\virusscan\scanemal.dll" could not be installed or loaded. The
internet says to fix the problem by unchecking the addin called Exchange
Scan. This does fix the problem, but the question is what does this add-in do
that i unchecked?

It would appear to be an AV outlook intergration tool - McAfee?

But what exactly does it do? Without it doesn't mcafee scan emails?

Its likely to do with mail scanning and as such the installation of McAfee
is corrupted in some way, so probably its not scanning mail - not that you
need to enable any AV app to intergrate with outlook anyway, provided it has
real time scanning
