Outlook Error messsage 0x800408FC ????

can someone please tell me what this erroer is and hopefully how to fix it.

I have Outlook Express works fine.
Same settings in Outlook 2003 and I get this error message. I just set up
this new email account on 1/10/06 and it worked for one day...on 1/11 it
stopped and all I get is the error message.

I've talked with my ISP, provider, webhost people and Dell all say it's an
Outlook problem. Microsoft is of no help either. Please help me if you can.

Did this just start happening? What kind of mail server are you trying to
connect to? Maybe the server is just down.

Thank you - YES I have deleted it and recreated it several times. I have
truned off Norton firewall and still it did not work. I am guessing that the
server is reading fine since Outlook Express works fine but there must be
something in Outlook that is keeping it from working.

Have you tried deleting the e-mail account and recreating it?

I'm not sure if this will work but you may want to create a new mail profile
via Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles and then add the e-mail account to
the new profile...see if that helps.

The only other references I can find for that error message have suggested
that perhaps your windows "hosts" file could be messed up. The following
thread contains some information that might help:

GOOD NEWS / BAD NEWS

Bad news first..the link you sent me to didn't help too much...but...

The GOOD NEWS.. it made me think through and try a number of other things. I
knew it had to be in Outlook. It cerntianly was not my ISP, computer, webhost
or server issues. Just Microsoft Outlook bugs.

I went back in - deleted all email accounts, again. Restarted Outlook and
set up new email accounts. First the same way - pop/smtp - obviously I got
the same result.
Then I tried setting up my POP/SMTP email through MAPI..it worked.
I tried deleteting the first account and it failed. Addded it back and it
worked. Basically I have two email account with the same name..one as a
POP/SMTP and one as a MAPI.
I'm sure this is all wrong but it works...perhaps this will help someone to
figure out this mystery.
