Outlook encounters problem and must close

I get this message whenever I launch Outlook. I cannot get it to fully load,
and then the error message pops up.

I searched here first and found the following advice:
Type in "Outlook /safe" without quoutes in the RUN under start menu.
If OL opens up, then try disabling the antivirus addin / Google search addin
under tools ->options->other->advanced options-> Addin manager / Com addins

I did this - and now I have this error:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. The key 'DisplayName' is either missing or
has an incorrect value. [File C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
10\forms\1033\SECREC(2).CFG, Section Description]

I've attempted to repair from the Office XP Professional installation disk,
but it did not work.

Locate extend.dat and rename it to .old. Make sure you include hidden
files/folders when searching for it.

Ok - I did this, and I even deleted the original file because when I renamed
it, it made a copy and left the extend.dat. I relaunched Outlook and got the
same error and it shut down.

You should rename the outcmd.dat. this stores all the customisation settings.
If that doesnot work, how about a new profile?

I renamed the outcmd.dat but didn't do any good. I did a complete uninstall
of Microsoft Office. I reinstalled it, and when I launched Outlook, it
looked like it was loading the same files - all the emails that were stored
looked like they were there. It gets to a point, then the error message pops
up and it closes before it fully loads. How can I do a new profile if I
can't get into Outlook to create one?

Created a new profile and changed the default to use the new profile.
Launched Outlook - same error and shut down. I'm starting to panic. Is this
hopeless? Should I start backing up all my files and plan for a complete
reformat of the hard drive? I MUST have access to Outlook for my business.
I need to be able to receive emails regularly and have my Calendar!

Final resolution - I had to bring out a computer service tech and it turned
out to be a Norton plug-in for Anti-Spam software that I had uninstalled, but
somehow the plug-in remained. Once we deleted it, Outlook launched without
an issue. Thank you all for the help!

I renamed the outcmd.dat but didn't do any good. I did a complete
uninstall
of Microsoft Office. I reinstalled it, and when I launched Outlook, it
looked like it was loading the same files - all the emails that were
stored
looked like they were there. It gets to a point, then the error
message
pops
up and it closes before it fully loads. How can I do a new profile if
I
can't get into Outlook to create one?

:

You should rename the outcmd.dat. this stores all the customisation
settings.
If that doesnot work, how about a new profile?

:

Ok - I did this, and I even deleted the original file because when I
renamed
it, it made a copy and left the extend.dat. I relaunched Outlook
and
got the
same error and it shut down.

:

Locate extend.dat and rename it to .old. Make sure you include
hidden
files/folders when searching for it.

I get this message whenever I launch Outlook. I cannot get it to
fully
load,
and then the error message pops up.

I searched here first and found the following advice:
Type in "Outlook /safe" without quoutes in the RUN under start
menu.
If OL opens up, then try disabling the antivirus addin / Google
search
addin
under tools ->options->other->advanced options-> Addin manager /
Com
addins

I did this - and now I have this error:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. The key 'DisplayName' is
either
missing
or
has an incorrect value. [File C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office
10\forms\1033\SECREC(2).CFG, Section Description]

I've attempted to repair from the Office XP Professional
installation
disk,
but it did not work.

Goog to hear you've got things solved. Sounds like you had multiple issues
then as the file you referred to has nothing to do with Norton and was a
corrupted file ;-)

Final resolution - I had to bring out a computer service tech and it
turned
out to be a Norton plug-in for Anti-Spam software that I had uninstalled,
but
somehow the plug-in remained. Once we deleted it, Outlook launched
without
an issue. Thank you all for the help!

I'm not able to launch Outlook to get to the Tools menu in Outlook, so I
did
a search and found reference to a SECREC(2).CFG located in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\forms\1033. The file size is 0KB. There
also a SECREC.CFG at the same location with a size of 1KB.

Created a new profile and changed the default to use the new profile.
Launched Outlook - same error and shut down. I'm starting to panic.
Is
this
hopeless? Should I start backing up all my files and plan for a
complete
reformat of the hard drive? I MUST have access to Outlook for my
business.
I need to be able to receive emails regularly and have my Calendar!

Use Control PAnel-> Mail
