Outlook encountered a Problem

N

neilos

I have Office 2000 running on XP home. I have been trying
to retrieve some archived files from Outlook. When I go to
import and export it says " MS Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
It then asks if I would like to send a report which I have
done some 20 plus times now.
I tried detect & repairing to no avail. I then deleted
Office and re-isnstalled it, but it didn't give me the
option of connecting to my .PST file. It just opened as
though nothing had happened with all my files and folders
still there.
I continue to get the same message when I click on the
import/export.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Neil

What is logged to the Event Viewer?
Can you connect to the pst-file by File-> Open-> Personal Folder...?
In what mode are you using Outlook 2000?

I too have the same problem after re-installing Outlook after a PC crash. I

Search for scanpst.exe on your hard drive. Then let is scan the pst-file for
errors.
By default scanpst.exe is located in;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<local ID>

Do things work when you start Outlook in safe mode?
Start-> Run and then type (with quotes and check your path to Outlook.exe)

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Outlook.exe" /safe

Don't try to use import/export. Just use Open to open the archive file.
