I often edit RECEIVED Incoming E-Mails

In older versions of outlook, this was no problem, open the E-mail and
edit it. However, in 2003 and some earlier versions, you can only do
this after opening the E-Mail and selecting Edit / Edit Message.

Is there a way to permanently and globally set outlook so that this is
not necessary? That is, so that received E-Mails can be opened and
immediately edited without doing anything else?

I think it has to do with the message format. HTML and
Plain Text e-mails in particular require Edit|Edit Message.

Don't know that there's a way around it.

Don't know if edit mode can be set as default open, but you can make it
easier.
Open a message window and and right-click toolbar area and select
"Customize". On the Commands tab, click the Edit category and drag "Edit
Mesage" to the Toolbar. Place it where it is the handiest for you to click.
Close the window.

Hope this works. Please post back either way.
Good Luck
