Outlook crashes when I select an "contacts" folder in address book

G

Have my conctacs folders checked"show as outlook address book"
,can use from within contacts, but when i use the address book Outlook
initially freezes then i get
"Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close..."
These contact(pst) folders were migrated from another computer via the
import /export tool.

Importing and exporting are never the correct way to transfer Contacts. You
have corrupted your Outlook Address Book Service and perhaps your profile.
Do the easy stuff first. Repair your PST file. Then remove and re-add the
Outlook Address Book Service to your profile, restarting Outlook in between.

Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't understand how badly importing functions
are broken no matter how many times we tell them.

You are lost, and you've lost us as well. Uninstalling and reinstalling
Outlook would be expected to accomplish nothing. We have no idea what you
mean by, "My other contacts list works as an outlook address book." Clarify
what that means. You should never transfer Outlook data using Import/Export.

If you examine the path to your default Outlook data file, then there is no
reason you cannot find and repair that file with the Inbox Repair Tool. Why

Ok Russ some developments.I ran the scanpst tool on Outlook pst in
c/docs&setting/paul/local settings/application data/microsoft/outlook and it
reported no errors.I then started outlook and tools/email accounts/view and
change existing address books,(At this point clicking the change button
showed my two contacts address lists.)removed outlook address books.Closed
outlook, reopened outlook,tools/email accounts/add email account/outlook
address books.Under properties on my two contact adress books the outlook
address book is checked.
Now the new( or perhaps the problem all along) development.I can have both
address lists active/present, but I cannot select either (or even one) via
the drop down arrow when trying to select"show names from".As soon as i
select either "contact" or "carclub"(even if there is only one choice) via
the drop down list outlook freezes then crashes
at this point i got an error message
"The address list could not be displayed".Have seen this several times
"an unsupported restriction was passed into an IMAPTable method" Have seen
this only once
I can see both address lists and select recipients via "new message to
contact"
Sorry for the length but i am trying to be as specific as possible.I am sure
this worked fine on my other laptop.(same programs and make of laptop)
