Outlook crashes first time only when switching XP accounts.

I am using Outlook 2002, PC is running XP Pro and is set up with two user
accounts - myself and wife.

If I open her account after opening or using mine and start outlook then the
following (below) dialogue box appears and I have to abort (Debug don't work
it seems).
If I then start outlook again it works fine.

=== Error Message ===

Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library (Window title)
Debug Error
Program: C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE
abnormal program termination
(Press Retry to debug this application)
[Abort][Retry][Ignore]

======

Retry and Ignore do not work, abort does.

If I then switch back to my account and start outlook I will get the same
error message, but again it will work fine on second time of clicking...

Same thing happens if I were to start from my wife's account and switch to
mine.
Once have restarted application Outlook is happy to run in both accounts.
No other issues, mail send receive etc all ok...

On restarting PC and open Outlook in 'the other account' to when last opened
I get the same error..

Does anyone have any Ideas? All seems to work well on the second attempt,
just darned annoying and concerned if this the indication of worse to come?
PC is fully patched (OS and Office), running NAV 2004 Pro - fully up to
date, and Adaware finds nothing except cookies...

Over to you guys ( and Gals ), thanks for any help and ideas,

Frustrated of UK.

I have the same problem using Windows 2000 Professional
(Service Pack 4) with Office 2000. Second time (and
after) opening Outlook works like a charm, but when
switching from one acct to another, the first time gives
the msg described below (excpet I only have an "OK"
button ... no Abort, Retry, Ignore).

If it makes a difference, I am also running NAV 2004 Pro
which is completely up to date.

Very annoying!

I'm guessing that one of the files that is windows user specific is corrupt.
Look in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook and delete or rename all files not named for either
profile. (You can easily access it by pasting %USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook in the Address bar of your browser or Windows
Explorer.)

Since oyu are using XP, have you tried Fast user switching? Create a user
account for her and Start, Log off, Switch users and set up outlook in the
windows profile. It takes a few seconds to swap users and you can both leave
outlook running.

Thanks for the suggestion Diane, sadly does not cure the symptom.

I deleted - okay moved to a backup folder - all the files in the
apps/ms/outlook folder, but the error occurs just the same...

Any other suggestions? I seem to recall reading another - unsuccesful -
thread where some mention of NAV being a potential cause?

Again thanks for any more suggestions...just off to back up me outlook.pst
files...

Thanks for the advice, but sadly no joy.

I disabled the office plug-in but the fault still recurred.

I even disabled NAV and NIS for a while to see if that changed anything -
but no improvement.

Again thanks for those promising suggestions - does anyone else have the
same issue and ideas?

Thanks in advance
