outlook crash help

Hi all
i am having major problems with my outlook.. I shall list them in the order
they occurred.
1. Unable to click hyperlinks in emails now I have to copy and paste.
this first started when I upgraded to IE8. i have tried the repairs online
for IE7 and 6 and they do not work.

2. tonight unable to open outlook at all tells me there are errors and I
need to go to Scanpst.exe and repair.

3. I have followed the instructions as per the help site on how to do the
Scanpst repair. i get to the stage of click settings and I get a error
message that reads
"Unknown error 0x80040600"

can someone please help me. As I am housebound at present with brain cancer
I rely on my email for contact.
