Outlook Connector not syncing mail

Guest

I am using Outlook Connector with Outlook 2003 and all of the sudden my mail
is not syncing. I am not getting new mail to Outlook. I have to go to Hotmail
to read my new mail. I have tried to repair the Connector and that didn't
work either. The following is my connection status from the status bar in
Outlook:
Outlook Connector Version 1.7.2811.0
Account: (e-mail address removed)
Session timed out. Automatically re-signed in at 10/12/2006 9:46:10 >PM
Mail: Last successfully refreshed at 9:46 >PM.
Calendar: Error at 9:46 >PM.
Contacts: Last successfully refreshed at 9:46 >PM.

The Calendar error I get from time to time and I am not real concerned
about. However, it is saying that the mail is being successfully refreshed
when it is not and I noticed the Session Timed Out msg which I don't recall
ever seeing before.

Any help would be appreciated since it is difficult to get any official tech
support for the Connector. Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem. It appears to have occurred after installing
updates automatically downloaded the evening of October 11 from Microsoft.
The problem occurred on both my home desktop and my laptop computers, and
didn't occur until after the updates were installed. I have tried to restore
the system to before the updates, but I get a message that the system can't
be restored for the previous 5 restore points.

Add one more person who is suffering from the identical problem. I have an
MSN account which I access through Outlook Connector in Outlook 2003. I
downloaded IE7 and Windows Live Messenger 7 yesterday and today my Outlook no
longer receives new mail. I have to go to Hotmail to get my new mail, not
good and very inconvenient. I think the problem is definitely related to the
recent updates. I tried system restore and removing the software updates, but
my Outlook still doesn't properly sync. Help!

Same thing for me. I updated Outlook & cannot receive my mail any longer. I
cannot get anything to happen & I am also not very computer savvy so that
doesn't help. I even re-loaded Outlook. This is a brand new laptop. Hopefully
MS willfix this damn problem soon. C'mon, Bill... help us out here.

Same here - this group is littered with messages saying the same thing.
Microsoft must be aware of the issue and yet nothing appears to be being
said as to what the issue is and what is being done to remedy it. This is
totally unacceptable.

I have been experiencing that issue too with Outlook wanting to send an error
rpt every time I shut it down. That has been going on for over a month now.

Does anyone know if Microsoft has some sort of status site for issues such as
this? I guess this is actually an MSN issue?

I'm not sure what caused the problem, or how to let Microsoft know of the
problem without paying the ridiculous $35.00 email fee for help, but there is
an easy solution that I found this morning. I went into Tools, Email
Accounts, View or Change existing accounts then removed my existing man email
account, closed and restarted Outlook, went through the same process, but
added my MSN account, restarted Outlook and all my emails were there. It
took a while to download all the messages again, but appears to work.

I did almost the same thing and got my email to work again but it only worked
1 time and then it stopped working again. I was able to download my messages
to Outlook but then I tried sending an email message to myself and it got to
my MSN account online but never downloaded to Outlook. Any messaages I was
receiving after that also didn't get to my Outlook.

Here's what I did:

I removed Outlook Connector, removed Microsoft Outlook 2003, then
reinstalled Outlook and the Connector. It still wasn't working. Then I went
into Mail in control panel and removed the profile, then re-created it.
That's when it started working but only 1 time.

Same here, I deleted my earlier profile, started a new one through outlook
connector, it downloaded all of my mail including new messages, but it won't
stay updated with new mail. Hrrmmmph!! Not happy.

Hi,
I did the same thing, and the Outlook connector worked once. Arrrgh....

So, here is what I did:

Using Outlook 2003:

Tools -> Accounts
Add New Account
Choose HTTP
Entered my msn email account: <user>@msn.com
(HTTP Mail Service Provider defaults to MSN)
Entered Username
Important! Change HTTP Mail Service Provider to Hotmail
I received a popup asking if I wanted to convert, Choose No
First time I said yes, and it re-created and repopulated my MSN account
(not good since this will work only once)
It worked.

Now here is the caveat: If you are not a paying MSN member, I don't
think this will work.

Caveat #2: AFTER I set this up, I removed my MSN account in Outlook -
this deleted all local copies of email in that account on my system, so
I have no local copies of email and attachments. Everything is online
at MSN (hotmail).

Result: all email is online, and not available if I cannot connect to
the net. But it works, it is fast, and I am happy with that.

Now my laptop is free from those pesky long local email file (.pst
file) syncs that take up time and seem to happen just when I want to
run a compile or do some heavy duty DB work, or answer that quick
email.

Hope this helps,
David

I'm posting this same message in a few threads so the word gets out...read
below

I just got off the phone with Outlook Tech Support. I guess I complained
loud enough b/c they waved the $35 fee! Apparently the MSN servers have been
having some issues for the past couple of days. It only affects certain
accounts (but I did not understand why). Anyways, the long and short of it
is...You may be able to fix it right now or it may take an additional 24
hours to resolve, she said it's hit and miss. In either case, here is what
Tech support said you need to do:
1. Remove your msn connector under add & remove programs in the control panel.
2. Staying in add or remove programs click on MSN and change/remove and
re-download the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector.
3. In outlook, remove your e-mail account and then re-add it.

On mine it did sink all my e-mails into outlook initially but still won't
receive any new e-mails. If it does not work we are supposed to try again in
24 hours. The upside (if there is one) is that they are aware of the issue!

Good luck to all.

$35.00 is a pittance in terms of tech support. I charge $75 per hour and my
clients are happy to pay that since others charge upwards of $100 an hour.

Great - you tbhink it's good value for me to pay $35 to tell Microsoft that
their system is broken - which they already know but can't be bothered to
tell subscribers. If that's your idea of customer service I wish you luck in
your next career.

Exactly! I think there should be a place to go besides here to find out if
something is down. I have the same problem with Outlook too, starting on day
3 now,,,

and BTW I paid the $35 confidently on another issue, and was sorely
disappointed. I got 1 email that didn't solve the problem with promise to
help if I sent some info on my system blah blah blah which i did....and not a
word further. That was a month ago.

I really don't see how you promoting your own business helps anyone on this
thread with the problems we all have mentioned. I have had this program
functioning less than 30 days on a brand new computer, so why should I pay
for support to begin with?

I am not going to get into a pissing match with you on here. I (and maybe
others on here) personally don't care what you charge for your services. Your
post offers no help to anyone.

Carol: Is it now receiving mail? Or did it just update when you deleted &
renstalled??
