Outlook changed format by itself

We are using word as the editor in outlook 2003. In doing so when we received
the message as one of the addressees the format was plain text not the rich
text format that it was sent. The document was sent not as an attachment but
was inbedded in the message itself. It was
as if outlook changed from rich text to plain text all by itself.

the format is controlled by the sender and mail servers, not your copy of
outlook, unless you have read as plain set, then all mail would be affected.
