I have this same problem. Vista with Office 2007. I've tried with extensions
visible and not. I get "All File (*.*)" regardless. Worse than that, if I
change the name of the file when I save it, the file forgets what kind it is
altogether. If it's a Word file, Word will still open it but the Word icon
remains missing in the folder view. If I really want to have fun with it, I
can add the extension and the icon comes back, but then Word won't open it at
all. I have to use the "Recover text" feature.
If anyone else has had my problem and knows how to solve it, please help me.
I'm so frustrated right now, especially because extension are a twenty year
problem to deal with and I'm getting sick of it!!

What happens if you enable it? Do you now get options in the dropdown?

No, I have known file extensions marked as hidden

Do you have "show file extensions" checked in your folder options->view
settings? (Windows)

When trying to save any attachement from Outlook 2007 by right clicking
and
going "save as" the format is All Files and it can't be changed. Is there
anyway of saving the files in the format they came in without adding the
extension to it?
