Outlook as preferred mailsystem

On my PC I have both Outlook and Outlook Express. I have exactly the same
configuration on the respective SMTP and POP3 e-mail accounts. All incoming
mail arrive in Outlook Express while I prefer to have them in Outlook.
I know that I cannot delete Outlook Express entirely, but what do I do to
have mail arriving in Outlook rather than in Outlook Express?

You could
a) Set Outlook as the email client by going to Control Panel || Internet
Options || Programe Tab || set the email client to Outlook

or

b) Remove the email account from Outlook Express

Thank you for your reply. I have done this - twice - and it does not work for
me.

Is this a stand alone computer or part of a domain network

1) Don't run Outlook Express is you don't want it to act upon the accounts
you have defined in it.
2) Set Outlook Express to leave a copy of the messages on the server so they
are there when Outlook looks for them.
3) Remove the mail account in Outlook Express so it CAN'T get the mail even
if you run it.
