Outlook and Outlook Express

Whenever I open Outlook 11, it makes itself the default mail handler.
When I open Outlook Express, it allows me to switch back. I want to
continue using Outlook Express as my email client. Is there a way to
keep Outlook 11 from making itself the default?

I am having the same problem in reverse. Every time I
shut down the computer, it resets the default e-mail
program to Outlook Express. I want Outlook to be my
default. I have tried changing this setting in Outlook,
in the Set Program Defaults and Access control panel, and
in Outlook Express (which identifies itself as default,
and will not give me a check box to undo). Does anyone
have a suggestion as to how to make this change stick?
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Inspiron
5100, Office 2003 Basic Edition, and the Outlook Express
that is part of the Windows package. Thanks.
