Outlook and .MHT files

I'm trying to create a rich .MHT document and send it via Outlook.
When the recipient receives it in Outlook, it appears as an Outlook
..MSG file. They *can* open it and view it fine by double-clicking on
the attachment. However, if they try to save it to disk for later
viewing, Outlook saves it as a binary .MSG file.

How can I get Outlook to leave the .MHT file alone and allow the user
to save it as a .MHT file?

Thanks in advance!

Any way to get around this? The intended recipients for this rich
document are busy execs within my company that don't have time to
fumble through WinZip.

I'm thinking not, but you can try this.

Tools > Options > Mail Format > Internet Options button. There is checkbox
at the bottom about encoding attachments in UUE. Check it. At this point,
start a plain text message and attach the MHT. Send it to yourself to check
the results. This test allows you to check and see if the underlying
conversion from Outlook binary storage > MIME > Outlook binary storage
across POP3/IMAP/SMTP is going to make you :) or :(

This didn't seem to have any effect.

The only way I've been able to get it to work the way I want to is to
do the following:
1) Make sure Tools > Options > Mail Format > "Compose in this message
format" is set to "Rich Text"
2) Make sure Tools > Options > Mail Format > Internet Format > Outlook
Rich Text Options is set to "Send using Outlook Rich Text format"
*not* "Convert to HTML format"
3) Compose the message in Rich Text mode

It seems that the HTML converter is the culprit that converts the MHT
attachment into a MSG attachment.

This would make sense since the attachment is incorporated into the RTF
stream and treated as a binary blob for transmission. The only downside is
that non-Outlook clients can access the attachment.

You need to zip it before sending.
