Outlook and Exchange Server Email problem port 135

I'm at my wits end. Comcast is blocking Port 135
(Verizon is not). My university uses an exchange server
for email. I MUST use outlook to manage my email and
contacts, etc. (I use ACT). My university does not want
to give me a VPN...

The 2million dollar question for anyone out there is:

Is there a work around to the blocked 135 port problem?
If I have to I'll go back to DSL but I'd like to stay
with the cable modem and comcast.

Thanks to anyone who has a suggestion!
Marc

Your university shouldn't have inbound 135 open in their firewalls anyway if
they value their network security. VPN or OWA are the only real options for
you... do they support VPN connections at all?

Does the university use Exchange 2003? If yes, would they be will to allow
an RPC over HTTPS connection? If no, then there is no way around it since
Outlook has to query the endpoint (port 135) to find out where Exchange
lives on the box.

by the way, i forgot to mention this -- but it means you have to be running
windows xp (sp1), 1 hotfix, and outlook 2003 if they university says yes.
