OUtlook adress Autocomplete slow

I am running outlook 2007 on XP with exchange 2003. Since upgrading to O2k7
the autocomplete in the address line has slowed down dramatically. Any ideas
why ?

Probably not, but you haven't provided any information. What isn't happening
that you think should? Was this an in place upgrade or a clean install? What
other performance issues are you seeing? Autocompletion is not one that has
been reported.

At first it was an upgrade from 2003 but after several other performance
issues, I removed and installed a fresh copy.

The issue is when you start to type an address, the autocomplete takes
several seconds to populate the list, if you typo and try to backspace it
takes a few seconds per letter. The other issue I have run into is opening
messages sometines takes several seconds, the outlook icon in the title bar
changes to a generic icon and outllok seems to crash. After a few seconds it
goes back to normal.

Ick. Your performance issues may well be self inflicted. Upgrade
installations of Office are dubious propositions at best. I never recommend
them. Outlook never survives them unless you create a new Outlook profile
from scratch immediately. There is no way you could then remove Office
2003/2007 and install clean. You have remnants of both installations lying
around.
For sure your Outlook profile is corrupt beyond repair. With any luck, a new
profile will solve some of these issues. Make sure you create it from
scratch with a new, unique name. Your autocompletion cache will be gone
after that and you will need to rebuild a new one.

I will argue the self inflicted statement. As advertised, Microsoft supports
upgrades, they should make that work. I also have a second guinee pig at my
office that got a brand new PC with fresh windows and office 2007 and that PC
has the same issue with the autocomplete. This was an existing user but brand
new hardware. His local profile is un-upgraded.

I couldn't agree more on the upgrade issue. Unfortunately what Microsoft
"advertises" and what is real are often two different things. It's probably
a good idea to do a quick search of these newsgroups to find out what's real
before you do anything Microsoft claims you can do with Outlook.
If another user with a truly clean install is having the identical issuer,
then we need to dig deeper into this. The issue has not been reported with
Internet transports, and you are running against Exchange Server; so you may
want to head over to one of the Exchange groups to see if anyone there has
seen similar problems with your scenario.
