Outlook Address Book capacity

With about 1000 addresses in my Outlook address book,
it's starting to act sluggishly. Does anyone know how
many addresses Outlook can handle?

Actually, just for terminology consistency - Outlook Address Book is just a
view - it doesn't hold anything in it. It can look at your contacts folder,
a global address list, etc. There shouldn't be a problem having 1000 items
in your contacts folder, per se. When are you seeing this 'sluggish'
behavior? Are you using Exchange? If you're using a PST file, where is it
located?

Thanks for your speedy reply. I'm afraid I can't answer
your questions though - it's a problem they are
experiencing in a new job I'm about to take over and I
was just trying to be efficient by turning up with a
solution! They said they needed to find new address book
software as Outlook was running badly, and I thought 1000
addresses should not really be a problem. I think I'll
come back to the newsgroup when I know all the details!
Thanks anyway.

The per folder limit (contacts as well as other folders in pre-unicode
Outlook) is 64,000 items. I seriously doubt that the size of the contacts
folders is the problem

If they have Instant Messenger integration turned on, turn it off under
Tools->Options->Other.
