Outlook Address Book and Contacts

I'm using Outlook 2002, and messed up my Outlook Address book. The
address book used to show Contacts twice on the drop down. One was
empty, and the other one had my real Contacts. I decided to remove
both, and to just add the real one.

Now, I can't add address books, whether it's OAB or PAB. I get a "The
account you have added is not fully configured. It might not work
properly until re-configured correctly." error. Also, if I click on
Properties on my Contacts folder, the "Show this folder as an e-mail
Address Book" check box is greyed out.

The info on
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002

doesn't help as I can't add an address book under Tools/Email Accounts,
and the Contacts properties page shows the "Show this folder as an
e-mail Address Book" check box is greyed out.

I've tried re-installing Outlook, but I'm still getting the same errors.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You've just reposted old information with no new information that would

Explain why the KB article did not work. Clearly, and in detail please. We
can't read your mind.

Outlook 2002 and WinXP Pro

In the address book, I used to have Contacts listed twice under the
"Show Names from the:" drop down. One is blank, and the other one has
my Contacts. It annoyed me, and I can't seem to get rid of the blank
one, so I thought I'd delete them both, and re-add the correct one. I
can't remember if I removed them through the address book/tools/options
or through Outlook/tools/email accounts/view or change existing
directories or address books.

Anyway, the address book is completely empty, and nothing shows up in
the "Show Names from the:" drop down. Still in the address book, if I
go to tools/options, the add, remove, properties buttons are greyed out.
The drop downs for "Show this address list first:" and "Keep personal
addresses in:" are both blank. The address list is also empty. With
the Add button greyed out, there's not much I can do here.

In Outlook, if I right click on my Contacts folder, and click
Properties, then go to the Outlook Address Book tab, the check box for
"Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" is greyed out. The name of
the address book (Contacts) is also greyed out. I have no idea how to
ungrey the check box so I can click it on.

Still in Outlook, if I go to Tools/E-mail accounts/add a new directory
or address book/additional address books and then choose either OAB or
PAB, I get an error stating "The account you have added is not fully
configured. It might not work properly until re-configured correctly."
I click on OK, and I'm right back to the OAB or PAB selection screen.

I have played with removing the data files and starting from a brand new
one to no avail. I have also re-installed Office 2002. I am now
completely at a loss as to how to get the address book back.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have you already configured a mail transport and an information store in
this profile?
If so, create a new profile from scratch.

You da man!! That did it. Thanks a lot.

One thing--I'm back where I started. I have 2 Contacts in my Address
Book. One from Contacts:Outlook and the other one from
Contacts:Personal Folder. Don't know why it does that, and why I can't
seem to delete the blank one. I only have one data store with all my stuff.

How many Contact Folders in your profile?
Do you have both the Outlook Address Book and Personal Address Book in your
profile? You should only have the former.

I only have one Contact folder in my profile, and I only have one
profile. If I click Properties on my profile, then e-mail accounts/view
or change existing directories or address books, it shows that I only
have the Outlook Address Book (MAPI type). If I click on change, it
shows me 2 Contacts folders--one from my PST, and another one that says
Contacts:Personal Folders.

I can't seem to delete the Contacts:Personal Folders. If I delete it,
exit out of Outlook, and then restart Outlook, it actually deletes my
real Contacts PAB. I changed the address book name of my real contacts
folder so I can tell which one not to delete.

Oh well, I can live with it.

Thanks,
Erwin

Your terms are confusing. I have no idea what you mean by "Contacts PAB." As
I said, you should have no PAB in your profile.
I have no idea what the difference is between a "Contacts from your PST and
one from your Personal Folders." A PST IS your Personal Folders file.

You only need one reference to your Contacts Folder when you go to "View or
change existing directories or address books > Outlook Address Book >
Change..."
