Outlook "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses..." in Vis

I've just gotten a new computer for my husband. It is loaded with Vista Home
Basic Service Pack 1, he hates change so I'm trying to load Office XP onto
it. Everything installed without issue. I've got Outlook 2002 and loaded XP3
onto it.

I think that this happened ... I had to move his addresses from an Outlook
Express over to Outlook (thought it would be time for him to upgrade). I
copied the .wab file over and used outlooks 'import' function to import the
addresses. I got the message at that time (expectedly) "A program is trying
to access e-mail addresses you have stored in outlook." with the choice to
allow for 1,5,10 minutes.

BUT... that program has long finished and I get this message the moment I
open Outlook. It is extremely annoying.

Any ideas? Please speak in plain English, I've seen some of the other
similar questions and have no idea what the person was saying... thanks for
any help you can offer, hate to resort to using Windows Mail instead.

Nothing here is accurate. Not sure where to start on this one. For starters,
why would you install a version of Outlook onto Vista that is so old that it
is no longer compatible with the operating system?
Why would you consider Outlook an upgrade to Outlook Express? The two
programs have nothing in common. Outlook Express cannot even run on Vista,
so what you claim to have done is not even possible.
Create a more accurate post that clarifies what you want to do now.

I can explain:
My husband HATES change. So I'm keeping the original Office version that he
is used to.

I never said that I considered MS Outlook to be an upgrade from Outlook
Express. Since I did not have the option of keeping him on Outlook Express on
Vista, I decided this would be the time to move him to the new Outlook mail
system.

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm. Your husband may hate
change, but he had to learn to use vista, and outlook 2007 isn't that much
different from outlook 2002. The experience will be better.

That message comes up when a 3rd party program is trying to read your
contacts. I'm not sure why importing the wab would cause this - unless its
because the wab is not available on vista.

He was using Outlook Express before? What is wrong with Vista Mail (or its
replacement, Windows Live Mail)? They are basically OE with a different
name.

He may hate change, but office xp does not play well with Vista. He might
actually like the new version - many people find "new" features - features
that have been in the apps for many versions.

Well you can shoot the messenger if you want, but you ignored several well
documented facts with this strategy. No one can help you with a pursuit that
ignores reality. These facts remain and will have to be factored into your
next strategy:
1. Outlook 2002 is not compatible with Vista. You will continue to receive
error messages.
2. Outlook cannot access Outlook Express data files directly. So you did not
do what you claimed. We have no idea what you actually did, but it certainly
contributed to the problems you are having. Only Outlook Express and its
successor Windows Mail can access OE data.
3. Outlook is not similar to Outlook Express. If you wanted to minimize
change, you would have used Outlook Express' successor, Windows Mail.
