Outlook 2k refuses to acknowledge existence of emails

Hi folks,

I have a Dell Laptop here running Windows XP Home and Outlook 2k. It
connects to our network for email/internet via username/password
authentication when connecting to a shared drive.

The problem is that it will send email fine, but refuses to acknowledge that
there is waiting email in the account. It simply puts a pleasant little
check mark against the whole process and no mail appears. I've checked the
account settings, set up a new account - all to no avail.

An identically configured Outlook 2k on a Windows 2k Pro machine works fine.

Any ideas??
