Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager

Had several faults upon installation. The Outlook portion would receive
e-mails, and all other functionality was there. However, the BCM portion
never worked, and blocked my Outlook 2003 with BCM from starting.

I ran the Office Diagnostics (great idea!!!) and only found that Outlook
2003 and Outlook 2007 conflict. I also kept getting an error when trying to
run 2007 BCM--I apologize: I don't have the exact wording, as I couldn't copy
it, but it would tell me that a mapi file could not initiate or was missing.
I also found that the MAPI32.dll was changed by the installation, preventing
my older Outlook 2003 with BCM software from running.

I uninstalled the Outlook 2007 with BCM, but only the BCM and the SQL Server
2005 were removed. Outlook 2007 still remains and cannot send e-mails (gives
me the error "Task 'mail.charter.net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC80) :
'None of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by
your server."

My next step was to run System Restore, but since the installation of Office
2007 Professional Beta 2, no system restore action is successful. I just get
moved to the change, and told no changes were made to my system.

Recommendation: You may want to warn people off of installing the Outlook
2007 Beta 2 Outlook with BCM if currently running Outlook 2003 with BCM. The
2007 product has a lot of features that are significant improvements, but the
conflict with 2003, and the inactivation of System Restore are problems that
cannot be accepted on a business computer.

Also recommend you investigate the problem with System Restore. I am
running on a P4 equipped Gateway 710 with 1GB of memory, on WinXP Pro. All
other MS products run perfectly--this is the only software misbehaving.

When I did a custom install of Office 2007 it stated specifically that
Outlook 2003 must be removed; all other Office 2003 applications could
remain for a concurrent install. This is likely the cause of your errors.
You might try uninstalling Outlook 2003 - this should be possible through
add/remove programs.

Hope this helps.

Mike,

Thanks! I never saw that note, but believe it based upon what I have
seen. I used the recommendation of an earlier post to disable outgoing
e-mail scanning if using Outlook 2007. I tried repairing 2003, but found
that once you install the 2007, the mapi32.dll file is changed, and nothing I
could do would change it back.

After uninstalling 2007, I tried getting Outlook 2003 to work with no
success. Only way I was able to get Outlook working was to reinstall Outlook
2007 (without the BCM so far). With the outgoing e-mail virus scan disabled,
it worked perfectly. Am debating trying the BCM again.

Only sour note is that the System Restore in WinXP is not working at
all. All other functionality is working well.

I had similar problem with emails . I could not send and getting the
message about...."authentication methods...." however when I selected
to "log on to incomming mail server before sending mail" (more
settings - outgoing server) all was ok.
