Outlook 2007, Vista and Mobile sync

With one week left until corporate clients get the new software and a couple
of month until it hits the shelves for home use, I hope someone will be able
to provide some info on the following issue:
Vista build 5744, Office 2007 beta with TR, smart phone with Windows mobile
2003. After downloading the update for Windows mobile, I can set up a
partenership with the phone. The phone reports the synchronization as
successfull, yet no information at all has been send either to the mobile
device or to Outlook.
Steps already taken:
Check up that account settings for the email account are a perfect match
between the mobile phone and Outlook.
Check that I can browse and modify folders on the mobile device from within
Vista (connection works, no permissions issues at that level): no problems
Attempt synchronization with Outlook both launched and not launched
Test the phone on a WinXP system with Outlook 2003 and ActiveSynch: no
problems there

Note that you'll have to remove all old ActiveSync partnerships first from
your mobile in order for it to work.
Also note that you are running with a very old BETA configuration. Much has
changed since those releases. IIRC Outlook 2007 wasn't even supported in the
BETA 3 release of Windows Mobile Device Center.

Working on removing old partnerships. This is not Microsofts fault, but
deleting old e-mail accounts and sync partnerships from the PDA is really a
pain.
I would be grateful if you could point me to a newer version of Mobile
Device Center, the version I have is the one released for RC1.
After disabling some security features, I can now get Outlook to update from
the PDA. The reverse is still a flop.

As to how old the Betas I'm using are, the reason I'm on 5744 is because
with RTM we have so many compatibility problems the only way to do some
actual work on that system is through VPC (sata controllers not recognized,
printers with only minimal functionality, no pdf creation....). The RTM is by
no means worse than 5744, is just that 5744 is tweaked to death with
practically no security features left enabled. On the RTM we're trying to
make it work with UAC, non admin users, firewall and Defender up, drivers
signing on, WFC on, standard settings in GPO...Which is a pretty frustrating
experience so far. We actually get an extra coffe break as incitement not to
disable UAC!!!

Tried Windows Mobile Device Center already in the RTM release?

As for your other Vista issues I can only refer you to the Vista newsgroups
and the additional newsgroups/support of your hardware and software you are
trying to get running. So far I haven't run into any major compatibility
issues with Vista RTM and I've been testing it on quite some old and exotic
hardware as well. In most cases was it that if the driver wasn't on the
Vista disk Automatic Update found it directly.

Note that lots of hardware vendors target January for full Vista
compatibility. For instance the drivers from NVIDIA are still in testing
phase as well. IMO if you need to disable all security features and driver
signing to get things to worl it is not worth wasting your own time on.
Contact the vendor and work to a proper solution together.

Funny you should say that. Most of our systems have either realtek or
soundblaster as sound devices. No drivers on the DVD, no drivers on Windows
update. Sil SATA drivers are only found after one manually installs older
drivers. NVIDIA SATA drivers are no where to be found. The control panel for
all the NVIDIA graphics cards has a very limited functionality. The printer
and Adobe problems are well known and well documented, not that there are any
works around. Mobile device on RTM is not there by default either. That team
has only confirmed that for me, they have a bit to go before they test that
part.
I work in a medium sized corp, and with all the hardware updates that seem
to become necessary just to have our old functionnality, june 2007 seems more
and more unrealistic a date for migration to Vista.
Right, back to clicking on "allow" and see if I can get this Synch thing
working.......
