Outlook 2007 Task will not open

Whenever I receive a new tasks in outlook 2007, it will not open. I receive
the following message.

"Cannot open this item. The Tasks folder cannot be found."

How can I get this feature to work properly?
 
See if starting Outlook with the resetfolders switch works;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetfolders
 
What kind of mail account type are you using?
Do you still have access to your Tasks folder?
 
We experienced this issue too. In our case, it happened after we applied the latest service pack to our Exchange 2003 server. There is a hotfix for this, please see the following knowledge base article from Microsoft:

And there are some workarounds if you can't get the hotfix applied right away:

The task email can be opened in OWA.
The task email can be opened once forwarded.
