I just migrated to Outlook 2007 from Outlook 2003. Previoously, when I did a
search, the notes fields of contacts would be searched. This seems to no
longer be the case. Is there something I can do to make it work as it used
to?

From where did you originally do your search and from where are you doing it
now? An Advanced Find should return it; CTRL+SHIFT+F

Thanks for the reply. First, it is cumbersome to find "Advanced Search"
unless you recall the keyboard shortcut, but most importantly, Outlook 2007
works quite differently than its predecessor. Is there any way to force
behavior comparable to Outlook 2003?

Advising on that will require you to answer my question;
From where did you originally do your search and from where are you doing it
now?

Note that you can customize your toolbar to create a direct link to the
Advanced Find dialog.

I did the search from the SEARCH CONTACTS box within the CONTACTS window.

Still customizing a toolbar does not make OUTLOOK 2007 behave the same way.
It is still necessary to select additional fields from the advanced search
dialog.

The Notes field is indexed and Search does return the correct contacts for
me based on the contents of the Notes field. In that sense it does not work
different from Outlook 2003.

I search for the word--ride--. In Outlook 2003, the search from the contacts
menu would find the contacts. Now it requires Advanced find to do the same.
Other than eventually finding the contact, it is certainly not the same
functionality. You say the Notes field is indexed. I don't know how to
check or if that affects me.

Thanks.

You refer to the Find box in Outlook 2003, right? Not the "Search address
books" on the Standard Toolbar?
You said you are searching for information you put into the Notes field of a
contact. So it affects you ;-)
An indexed field means that a search query will consult that field and
returns it as a result when your criteria is found.

When I do a search for something that is kept in a Notes field, the Search
Contacts field in the Contacts folder successfully retrieves the correct
contacts for me.

I'm simply stating that searching contacts based on information in Notes
field is supported. You stated that in this sense it works different from
Outlook 2003, which is not the case.

You have provided too little detail to be able to help you further;
Are you using a pst-file to store your Outlook data in or are you connected
to Exchange?
In the case of a pst-file run scanpst.exe against it to check it for errors.
Has everything been indexed already? Tools-> Instant Search-> Indexing
Status...
Are you on Windows XP or Windows Vista?
Have you tried rebuilding the index already?
