I have had no problems with downloading from hotmail account until suddenly I
started getting an error message (0x80040604) saying those files already
exist. I can't even delete emails in the deleted items folder. This occurs
only with downloads from my hotmail account. I continue to receive emails
from my business account which is a POP account.
The problem started after an automatic update from windows on July 5th. I
tried to restore my system to and earlier point and was not able to do so.

I'm having the exact same problem. I have a hotmail account which I have
consistently used since 2001. I've never had a problem downloading emails
from hotmail to outlook through outlook 2003 and outlook 2007 until last
Sunday when all of sudden I'm getting the same error message. I delete the
hotmail account. Set it up again and it works fine until I exit outlook. When
I go back in same problem. Maybe once in a while I get an error message
regarding TCP/IP timing out but ultimately I get the same error message. I've
even tried uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office Suite 2007 to no avail. I
just want to know what has suddenly changed to make this occur and what can I
do to fix it.

On my laptop I still have Outlook 2003 with Windows XP installed and it
works perfectly.

Thanks for any help

This is a brand new laptop with vista it was humming along just fine. Somehow
I think it may have something to do with a windows autmatic update that was
installed after my last received email. I tried to restore my system to an
earlier point and it will not allow me to do so. I'm very frustrated. I'm
just glad I can still get my mail off of hotmail's website. Maybe you can
check your system and see if you and connect it to an update from microsoft.

Here is an update, I sent Microsoft an email and they were not able to answer
my questions so far and have sent me a list of possible contacts who might
help me. I'm surprised that with the error code they should be able to give
me an answer or direct me to one source who would have the knowledge to help
me without searching through all their links. If I ever get an answer I'll
let you know.

For some reason I deleted the malfunctioning account again last night and
reentered it without closing Outlook and it now appears to be working
correctly without error again. I'll post if anything changes.
