Microsoft, Please bring back this function!

You are not contributing to a greener world by disabling this function.

I will not be recommending anyone to upgrade to Office/Outlook 2007 until
this is fixed.

Have you considered using a third party addin?

Savvisoft has released 'Blueprint for Outlook' which overcomes the issues around printing page selection, and will allow you to print selected pages whilst still retaining all the usual message header information.

It also provides you with full control over the layout of your custom forms, even allowing you to add custom headers and footers to printouts.

If you like the sound of it, you can visit http://www.savvisoft.com for more information and a free 30-day download.

Kind Regards

Hayden Saveal.

Dear Hayden,

Thank you for your suggestion. I downloaded and installed the program and it
does not solve this issue.

Hi,

Blueprint for Outlook does enable the ability to print page range or the current page (as displayed in the print preview window).

It overrides the standard Outlook printing and use the Internet Explorer model for printing.

In what way do you believe it is not working for you?

Kind Regards

Hayden Saveal

Hi,

Savvisoft have now released a new Blueprint for Outlook product range for overcoming typical printing limitations.

The Basic version has been designed to simply enable you to reduce paper usage. As part of this, Blueprint now enables you to select part of a message and print it whilst still retaining all the usual header information.

Blueprint for Outlook also comes in Professional and Enterprise editions for businesses looking to control the printed layout of Outlook items, and also provide automated printing. E.g. You can print just the first page of every incoming/outgoing message.

For more information, please visit: http://www.savvisoft.com

Any Free alternatives? I don't really want to spend $20 for something I used
to have (previously paid for...)

Thanks,
Jeremy

I'm not aware of any free software. Which software did you previously pay
for?

Sorry, I meant to use an emoticon or something. I was trying to indicate
that I since I had the feature available to me in Outlook '03, (which I
purchased) that I had paid for it already. (I'm aware that 2003 used the IE
printing engine, and that 2007 uses Word's.)

Technical people probably should leave the use of humor to trained
professionals, eh?

If you do learn of such a plugin, if you could keep me in mind, that would
be great. I have many users who lament for the lost functionality, and I'm
not sure I could "sell" the idea of another $15-$20/pp. to my boss.

you can still use IE's engine - open the html formatted message, go to Other
actions, View in browser.

Diane,

You're way overestimating the abilities of my users! <GRIN> I tried
teaching a few people that, and only garnered a bevy of help desk calls, when
they started getting plain-text messages that "didn't work."

Then we had to show them how to convert to HTML first, and that
one-step-too-much just exasperated folks. -Sigh.- :)

I appreciate your responses to this long-dead thread though! I just
realized that the other users' posts were from last year... don't know how I
missed that!!

Afrdukken email Outlook2007

Unlike Outlook2003, it is impossible to easily print a selection of an email
in Outlook2007. You can buy an addin at: www.savvisoft.com @ US$19.90.
Bloody ripoff by Microsoft. After paying a fortune for an upgrade to
Outlook2007 it sets you back as far as selective printing is concerned. And
environmentally unfriendly as well, having to throw away all those unwanted
pages. I have asked Microsoft to issue a patch to solve this. But will theuy
listen to us, their clients? Grin and bear www.savvisoft.com or change to
Google is maybe the only solution.

I very much miss this feature in Outlook 2007. Opening in a browser is
cumbersome. I have resorted to "Forward" the message. Edit out what I don't
want printed and then Print. It gives an extra "FW: " line at the top, but
saves paper.

Workarounds listed are fine for printing selections within the message, but
our end users would like to capture the field headings, such as To, From,
etc. in the selection printing.
any workarounds for that option?

Here is some information from OL Help that will address some of your
problems...

The ability to print sections or pages of e-mail messages depends on the
version of Microsoft Outlook you are using. In any version, you can print
sections or pages by opening the message in a browser window, such as
Internet Explorer. You can open the browser from within the open message.

If you are using 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2), you can
print individual pages from messages. Earlier versions of Outlook do not
have this capability and you must open the message in a browser in order to
print individual pages or sections.

To print selected pages using Office 2007 SP2
1.. Do one of the following:
a.. In an open message, click the Microsoft Office Button , point to
Print, then click Print in the Preview and Print list.
b.. In the message list (message list: The middle part of the main
Outlook window that displays the contents of the selected folder.), click
the message you want to print, and then on the File menu, click Print.
2.. Choose printing options. For an in-depth description of these options,
see Printing in Outlook.
3.. Under Print, click or enter the specific page or pages that you want
to print.
Tip To confirm how your message will look printed out, click Print
Preview first. If you do not want to print the entire message or list, this
will help you determine which individual pages to print.

4.. Click OK to print.
To print selected pages using browser view (Note: You can print Selections
too by using that function in the your browser even though these
instructions do not mention this capability - Jim)
1.. In the open message, on the Message tab, in the Actions group, click
Other Actions, and then click View in Browser.
If you see a security message, click OK if you choose to continue.

2.. On the browser toolbar, click the arrow next to the Print button, and
then click Print Preview.
3.. Determine the page or pages that you want to print.
4.. On the toolbar, click Print.
5.. Under Page Range, click Pages, and then type the page numbers of the
pages you want to print.
6.. Choose any other printing options.
7.. Click Print.

The current format in Outlook 2007 prints From:, Sent:, Subject:, and
Attachments: when printing a sent email. How do I format the system to
include To:, CC:, and BCC: in the print of sent emails? The online help
indicates these can be included as "Custom" modifications, but I cannot find
any direction to create this customization. Older versions of Outlook
included these in the header when printing sent emails, and they are really
needed to.... it's that "documentation" thing.....

It wasn't until I got a new computer and started using Outlook 2007 that I
missed this essential printing feature. After trying to "fix" the problem
through my print drivers and spinning a lot of wheels, I finally learned that
the Print Selection feature has been eliminated from Outlook 2007 altogether
and is disabled in the the Print dialog box. The prescribed workarounds may
be effective but are too convoluted to be practical on a day-to-day basis.
Whatever prompted Microsoft to eliminate this highly desirable option while
adding so many insignificant options to Outlook? It's time for a patch!
Please!

This is ridiculous. Here is how it "should" work:

1) Select an email that you wish to print
2) Select File->Print (actually, clicking the Print icon should do this as
well, but don't EVER click this button unless you want to waste paper!)
3) In the Print dialog box, select the page (or range) of pages you want to
print
4) Click OK to print.

It is absolutely shameful that it does not work this way! Yes, I am upset.
It is ridiculous that something so common would have to be so convoluted and
different from other Microsoft programs.

Printing just one page is common, therefore it should be point-and-click
simple to do. That's User Interfaces 101.

As the post on the 23rd of May stated, but perhaps didn't make clear
enough: Office 2007 SP2 fixes this problem, just download the update.
Microsoft themselves don't make this clear, as if they are trying to
cover up that this problem existed in the first place.
