Hello. Cannot send or receive mail from a POP account (MSN, actually) using
settings identical to the ones I'm successfully using in Outlook 2003. I've
been using them for years, and have them memorized, so I know they're
correct. Some specifics:

Incoming: pop3.email.msn.com
Outgoing: smtp.email.msn.com
User Name: <user>@msn.com
SPA selected
Firewall off, no Anti-virus running

When testing the account settings, receiving mail fails instantly, with the
message 'e-mail server rejected your login with SPA'. (Deselecting SPA
results in the password request dialog box appearing time after time.) This
appears to me to be an issue with the Outlook beta itself, not individual
mail settings.

Also, I've seen several questions regarding this issue, and no helpful
answers, so I offer some criticism here, to Microsoft MVPs especially. This
is your job, so save the sarcastic comments and withering cutdowns for
another forum and try to provide some knowledgeable insights. And offer
multiple routes for rectifying a user's issue, to cut down on back and forth
postings.

In response to another posting asking the same question as the one above, an
MVP replied, 'Try reconfiguring your mail settings'. That isn't helpful in
the slightest. Why even bother answering if that's what you have to offer?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much.

What makes you think is our JOB? It's not like we are working for Microsoft
to do this. All the MVPs are volunteers who do this in their spare time.
Also, what sarcasm? Did we initiate it (except some replies to empty posts)?
Are we not allowed to stick up for ourselves?

If you want help from someone who's job it is to help you, then contact
Product Support Services and fork over the $35. Everyone here is a
volunteer and we answer who and what we wish. It is no one's "Job" here.

Again, thanks for the help. Missing the point of my comment completely, but
fully appreciate the no assistance whatsoever.

Try configuring your account with the automatic setup. When you add the
account, only specify your email address and don't select manual
configuration.

MSN doesn't offer pop3 and smtp accounts. You need to use the outlook
connector.

Diane, thanks for the response. I currently use POP settings in Outlook 2003
(I've had the MSN account for so long I think I'm grandfathered in as a POP
user) and it works perfectly. Not sure why this would be, but does Outlook
2007 handle that differently? And by Outllook Connector, are you referring
to setting up the account as HTTP?

Thanks again

I understand there are problems with ol2007 and the old msn accounts and
frequently, if you use another access method it disables pop/SMTP. The
outlook connector brings in calendar and contacts as well as email, while
HTTP (also an option) only does email.
