Outlook 2007 - Hyperlinks blocked by system administrator

In the last few weeks I have had an error appear when trying to click on
hyperlinks in email messages that says "The operation has been canceled due
to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator."

I've seen many references to this error & have tried the fixes offered
including:
* Resetting default web settings
* Grabbing the reg key from another computer
* Reinstalling Office 2007
* Using the "repair" option on the install disk above

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

The errors started somewhere around the time I installed recent updates for
Outlook, IE 8, Vista & Office.

I use Vista Home Premium SP2, Office Enterpise 2007, Internet Explorer 8 &
am the only user of this notebook. All MS updates have been installed.

Thanks
MickP

Use Start-> Default Programs to assign IE all the defaults again.
Assign it to another browser, or disable all the defaults when they are
already selected. Save the changes and then changes them all back to IE.

Did you mean through the Custom settings of "Set program access and computer
defaults"? If so, I disbaled the access to IE, then IE & Outlook, then
Outlook but they didn't work out.

Thanks anyway...

Any other ideas?

This is a known issue with IE8 if you upgraded from IE7. If IE6 was installed
originally and you went to IE7 and then to IE8 then this issue will not happen. But
if you started out with IE7 and then went to IE8 then this issue stands.

To solve this issue revert back to IE7
Here is a snip from Hal Hostetler on the issue

This is a known issue if you've installed IE8. The only way to fix the
problem, currently, is to uninstall IE8, reverting to IE7.

Uninstalling IE8

I have the same "operation canceled" issue with IE8 and Outlook 2007 on
Vista Business (32-bit).

I've tried all the solutions I could find: copied clean registry entry from
another PC, cleaned registry, set IE as default browser, and finally,
uninstalled IE8. The fault still persists. I have also checked firewall
settings - the error message still comes up when Windows firewall is
disabled.

I can't seem to find anything relevant in the Event Viewer, but maybe I'm
not looking hard enough.

Any other ideas, anyone?

I had the same problem after deinstalling Google Chrome because I hadn't
been using it. After reinstalling Google Chrome, Outlook 2007 with IE8
responded as well as it had previously in making hyperlink connections.
Others have experienced exactly the same problem according to the online help
community!

If you received this error after uninstalling Chrome (or Firefox) browser you may also need to change the HTM/HTML association in the registry.
1. Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
3. Right click the value for the .html key and select Modify...
4. Change the value from "ChromeHTML" to "htmlfile" (or from FireFoxHTML to htmlfile)
Repeat these steps for htm and .shtml keys if they exist.
