I connect using SSL for both IMAP and SMTP.

It does not matter whether I have "Require logon using Secure Password
Authentication (SPA)" enabled or disabled, Outlook always requests
DIGEST-MD5 from the server. It does not work well then as there is a 5
seconds delay each time a choose a new folder for the account. This is
confirmed by the Outlook logs.

Excerpt from the log:

IMAP: 23:00:43 [rx] * CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 UIDPLUS IDLE LOGIN-REFERRALS

IMAP: 23:00:43 [tx] pwoe AUTHENTICATE DIGEST-MD5
IMAP: 23:00:43 [db] OnNotify: asOld = 5, asNew = 5, ae = 3
IMAP: 23:00:43 [rx] + <long string of characters from the IMAP server, the
MD5 DIGEST I presume>
IMAP: 23:00:48 [db] OnNotify: asOld = 5, asNew = 5, ae = 3
IMAP: 23:00:48 [rx] pwoe NO invalid user or password
IMAP: 23:00:48 [tx] LOGIN command sent
IMAP: 23:00:48 [db] OnNotify: asOld = 5, asNew = 5, ae = 3
IMAP: 23:00:48 [rx] l6ek OK login successful

Thus, Outlook requests DIGEST-MD5 and gets something back but then does
nothing until the IMAP server reports "NO invalid user or password".

I would have expected Outlook to choose PLAIN if I disable SPA.

It seems the same applies to SMTP, but it is not as annoying as the IMAP
delays as those happen whenever I navigate between folders.
