Outlook 2007 corrupts its data files?

M

Michael Ray Brown

I've been running the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) every day on my main
data file for Outlook 2007. It always reports errors, which I proceed to
have it fix. The next day, it always reports more errors. This is on a
..pst file of about 800 MB in size. The data file is local, not on a
network.

Thinking it might be wise for me to rebuild my .pst file from scratch, I had
Outlook 2007 create a new one. Before I did anything to it, I ran the Inbox
Repair Tool on the new .pst file. To my astonishment, it reported errors.
I can only conclude that somehow Outlook 2007 corrupts the data file. This
never happened with Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2000.

In the three months I've been using Outlook 2007, I've had to completely
rebuild the data file twice due to corruption. I'm growing more and more
concerned about trusting my data to it. Has anyone else encountered this
issue?

The symptoms suggest possible hard disk problems.

I ran an exhaustive series of tests on the hard disk using PC-Doctor, and it
checked out okay. I have Outlook 2003 on another partition, and it doesn't
corrupt the data file. Strange that a brand-new data file with nothing in
it would get corrupted by Outlook 2007.

Maybe now that the disk has been checked out and any small flaws no doubt repaired automatically, it will work better.
