Outlook 2007: can't turn off "display online status next to person's name"

T

tools>options>Other: Person Names - Display Online Status Next to Person

This is by default set to "on" (checked). Although I can uncheck it,
selecting "ok" or Apply does not seem to do anything b/c when I visit the
same option again, it remains checked.

Outlook has been functioning very slowly for me and I have heard that this
is a key optimization to helping Outlook 2007 speed up, but that it might
require a registry fix. anyone have any experience with this?

Your thougths appreciated.

Thanks - Toby

What version of messenger do you have installed?

AFAIK, it's not a problem in Outlook 2007, not like it was in Outlook 2003.

I have Windows Messenger 4.7.

Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to uninstall, and am not able
to remove it among the listing of windows .

i followed the directions from this post:
http://codebetter.com/blogs/darrell.norton/archive/2004/03/10/8781.aspx
but it still seems to be there.

I am definitely running Outlook 2007 and not 2003.
I have tried many times to unselect the option to view whether contacts are
online but it does not have any effect - the option is always selected when
I open it back up.

I just ran the Scanpst.exe utility on my ost file. Didn't have any effect
on that (though didn't expect it to).

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
thanks - Toby

Correction - the run script did work - it just required a reboot - it no
longer seems to
I'm still curious what would fix the issues I was coming across though.

thanks - Toby
