Outlook 2007 and SMTP over port 587

I use Outlook to get my POP3 email from my roadrunner (rr) account, I use it
from within the rr network and from outside. With Outlook 2003 I setup port
587 secure SMTP and it worked from both inside and outside the rr network. I
switched to Outlook 2007 and now need to change the account setting when I
switch networks, turn off authentication when inside the rr network and then
turn it back on when outside (e.g. from work). I still have the old notebook
with Outlook 2003 and it still works without changing the settings, obviously
my setup for username and password are correct, because it works from
outside, obviously Microsoft has changed something with 2007 and the way it
authenticates, any help here would be appreciated.

Hmmm, I use those same sort of settings for my provider's SMTP server on &
off network and they work find in OL2007 & OL2010. Might something on your
home net be blocking port 587?
