Outlook 2007 and RPC over HTTP

I have just installed Vista and Outlook 2007 and when I attempt to connect
to an exchange server using HTTP over RPC, i will get the disconnected message.
When I start Outlook, I get a basic auth window which works correctly but
right after that Outlook goes into a disconnected mode.
Is there any way I can turn on some verbose logging in Outlook to find out
what is failing?

I am having the exact same problem. I see that KB 831060 talks about
modifying a registry key that does not exist in my Registry. Maybe that's
the problem.

I would love to find a solution to this as it is becoming more and more
frustrating. I am working with a Windows Vista unit w/ Office 07 and the RPC
over HTTP process just does not want to work. Any advice is greatly
appreciated.

Same problem here.

all of my XP/2003 clients work fine
None of my Vista/2007 machines work.

I am seeing this problem in multiple companies, with different server
types (Some sbs2003) (Some Exchange Enterprise 2003) All the same
behavior.

I was reading about your problem and had the same issue. Try this fix
I just stumbled upon it appears to have worked for me

Problem connecting Outlook 2007 over RPC over HTTPS through ISA Server
2006 to Exchange Server 2003 solved.
After several hours of searching the web I found the hack to correct
the false behaviour of Microsoft Outlook 2007 if you try to connect to
your Exchange with RPC over HTTPS on Windows Vista (in my case
Ultimate).

The solution is to add a DWORD called DefConnectOpts with value 0 in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC. If the
RPC doesn't exist, as in my case, just create it and it works!

It's a false behaviour confirmed by MSFT in this Knowledge Base
article: KB913843.

I'm not running ISA 2006 but it worked for me regardless so it's worth
a shot.

I had the same problem using Outlook 2007 on Vista contacting Exchange 2003
over HTTP... after pulling my hair out all day trying to get it to work, this
Registry tip did the trick. Thanks!!
