when I use the "To: " button in a new mail message, or if I hit the address
book
button, OL hangs. I can open it fine from the inbox or contacts page.

When I open OL in safe mode, I have no problems at all.

I have the same problem. OL hangs on new message when I press To: or Address
Book Icon. When in safe mode, the system operates properly and I get the
Address book dialog.

Harry B - I've solved the problem for me... it was a multiple monitor issue.
I was having the trouble when I disconnected my laptop from a multiple
monitor set up at work. The "To:" dialog box was opening correctly, but it
was opening on a non-existent monitor. The immediate fix is to just hit the
enter key to accept the first address in the dialog box. That will at least
close the dialog and let you continue. The monitor fix is described here
really well:

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

That was exactly the problem...I use my laptop all the time on projectors
and sometimes forget to adjust my display settings.

That is a great tip!

Thanks,
