I have a Windows 2000 SP4 computer running Outlook 2003, upon setting up
the Microsoft Exchange connection, I get the following error:

"The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook
must be online or connected to complete this action"

I can ping the Exchange server, and if I launch IE I can open the web
interface, but the Outlook connection won't work.

There are others using this configuration with no connection problems.

I did install Outlook under a different computer name and then rename
before giving to the user, if that matters....

Doesn't matter about changing computer name/joining at a later time, however
I need you to clarify just one point... are you trying to connect to the
Exchange server via RPC or RPC/HTTPS. The later is not supported on
Windows 2000. Connecting to Exchange 2003 via RPC/HTTPS requires Windows XP
SP2.

/neo

PS - a way to test between the two... can you telnet to the Exchange server
on port 135. (It will connect and you just get a black screen. If you get
a message back from telnet of could not open connection to the host, then
something is blocking connectivity between you and the Exchange server [e.g.
personal firewall, router, corporate firewall, .etc])

I've got Outlook 2003 running on other Windows 2000 pc's, so I can't
tell you how Outlook connects to Exchange be it RPC or RPC/HTTPS, and I
can telnet to the Exchange server.
