Outlook 2003 won't open due to msmapi32.dll errors

Like many previous posts I'm also having problems with Outlook 2003 and
msmapi32.dll. If I try to open Outlook it gives me an error message and
closes. Error log says error is in msmapi32.dll. Tried recreating Outlook
profiles - new profile fails (with msmapi32.dll error) when I try to add an
Exchange profile although it will create a profile if I add an HTTP mailbox
instead (no use to me however!).

Have tried renaming/recreating msmapi32.dll and even tried repacing it with
a copy from a working machine but to no avail. Tried fixmapi, tried
uninstalling & reinstalling Outlook, tried deleting/recreating user profile -
none of these works. Don't have any 3rd party add-ins.

If I install Office XP Outlook works fine. Outlook 2003 was working fine two
weeks ago then just stopped. Anybody have any suggestions or should I just
burn my PC?

I have been having this exact problem for months now. I finally gave up and
switched to Outlook express. Has any progress been made on this issue?

I've tried all the suggested fixes (other than reformatting and starting
from scratch), nothing has worked. Here is my error message:

AppName: outlook.exe AppVer:11.0.8118.0 AppStamp:456628bf
ModName: msmapi32.dll ModVer:11.0.8002.0 ModStamp:4373069d
fDebug: 0 Offset: 0005492c

Xp Pro SP2

Thanks

In the end I got fed up of trying x, y & z and did exactly what you dread:
reformatted & reinstalled XP. Haven't had the problem since. Best to leave
System Restore turned on though as I found in the past that restoring to a
week previous also fixed the problem. Unfortunately I'd turned it off prior
to this last time so was sunk.
