Outlook 2003 will not send or receive

After working fine for years Outlook 2003 on windows XP now suddenly has
stopped sending and receiving. Nothing works: F9, manual send/receive, auto
s/r. If I go to mail set-up it won't let me in to the send/receive window.
simply no response. There are no error messages or anything else that might
be a clue. The only thing that may help is that for a long time now (months),
each time I shut down Outlook I get the message "Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close" but no furhter info. I am not a techy person so
if you have suggestions you may need to explain in baby steps!

Search your drive (including within hidden folders) for a file called
Outlook.srs. With Outlook closed, rename the file to OLDOutlook.srs. When
you reopen Outlook, it should create a new SRS file. See if that helps...
