Outlook 2003 versus Adobe Acrobat Pro 6

Running XP Pro w/SP2, recently installed Adobe Acrobat 6. Immediately after
installing that program, I attemped to launch Outlook 2003. Outlook loads,
then immediatly crashes before it can pull mail...it gets completely dumped
from memory as if I'd never loaded it.

Installed Acrobat Pro update 6.0.1. Same result.

Installed Acrobat Pro (Reader) update 6.0.2. Same reult.

Uninstalled Acrobat Pro. Outlook 2003 immediately worked.

I'll contact Adobe on November 15th for assistance. In the meantime, has
anyone else encountered this problem and devised a solution? In reading
another thread, it appears that if I do a "custom" install with Acrobat Pro
and choose not to install the Outlook plug-in, that the program might work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA for your help.

There are problems with the Outlook addin that triggers the enhanced
security blocks (e.g. a program is trying to access the address book
prompt), but I haven't run across anything in the combination you describe
where it would prohibit Outlook from launching.

does it work if you disable the plug in? (see
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2002sp3.htm#problems for the steps)

Try renaming outcmd.dat and *.srs and see if it helps - both are at
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Diane (et al)...

I contacted Adobe Tech Support this morning. Although they would not admit
to any "bugs", they had me re-install Acrobat Pro using the "Custom" option.
I clicked "off" the Outlook plug-in, and continued with the install. They
also recommended that I use "Notepad" as my HTML editor versus the default
"Word", which I changed BEFORE the install of Acrobat Pro. After I did all
this, Outlook launched just fine... and continued to do so after I re-applied
Acrobat update 6.0.1 and Reader update 6.0.2.

I then went back and made "Word" my default HTML editor, and everything
still worked OK.

My guess is that there is a minor bug in the Outlook plug-in, which Adobe is
feverishly working on...but that is just a guess. };-)
