Lately I've been getting a lot of undeliverable "Not read" receipts bouncing
back to my Inbox. I'm using OL2003 SP1 on Exchange. I have my read receipts
option set to "Ask before sending." It appears that when Junk E-mail gets
deleted by AutoArchive, Outlook sends (without asking) these Not Read
receipts for these emails.
Considering that the Outlook team is going through the effort to create
regular updates to the Junk E-mail filters, I'm very surprised that this bug
hasn't been fixed. I call it a bug because that's what Jeff Stephenson
[MSFT] called this behavior in a post here from nearly two years ago
regarding Outlook 2002. You can keep updating the filters, but if Outlook
keeps validating my email address to spammers with these receipts, I will
keep getting more Junk E-mail no matter what.
I'm going to try turning receipts completely off - even though this destroys
a useful feature - to see if that fixes this problem. If this is expected
behavior, at a minimum there should be a KB article explaining the options to
deal with this problem.
