Outlook 2003 Sound Notification - HELP

Beginning yesterday the notification sound for my inbound email hsa changed
to a beep, similar to the default system beep. In the sounds dialogue the
notify.wav is still associated with new mail. I have turned off the option
in outlook closed the app and tried changing the sound associated with
inbound mail...but each time I turn it back on regardless of what is
associated with new mail sound...I just get the beep. How do I fix it?
 
Go to the control panel and click on the sounds button. Find the new mail
notification in the list and change the sound to what you would like.
