Outlook 2003: Showing Calendar within Mail view

E

Eric Baber

Hi,

I've just upgraded from Office 2002 to Office 2003 and am trying to
replicate the view I had in Outlook 2002.

I used to have a screen split into three columns: the left-hand column
(about 1/4 of the screen width) had my inbox with all its sub-folders in it.

The middle column, which took up about 1/2 the screen width, had my list of
e-mails displayed horizontally across the top, and under that I had the
message window.

In the right-hand column, the remaining 1/4 or so of the screen, I had the
calendar view (which I could toggle between daily/monthly weekly view) and
below that I had my task bar.

I'm trying to replicate this in Outlook 2003 but can't seem to find a way.
I've discovered how to open up the Calendar in a new window, but that's not
what I want - I want to be able to view my inbox and its subfolders, the
from/subject lines etc of my e-mails, the body of a selected e-mails and my
Calendar all in one window. Is this possible in Outlook 2003?

Thanks

Eric

You must have had a custom folder home page in Outlook 2002 because no
version of Outlook has ever been able to do that out of the box. Sorry.

I don't think there is a way any longer. The Calendar and Taskpad simply
won't display with the Inbox, or at least I can't find a way.

I doubt it. I certainly didn't set up a custom folder (well, I may have
customised the view, but only using the generic tools found under File -
Edit - View etc), and neither did my systems admin. I'm trying to find
another maching running Outlook 2002 now to replicate the view I used to
have...

How irritating. It was very useful being able to see e-mails AND your day's
calendar in one view.

In fact, the more I'm playing with Outlook 2003, the less impressed I am. It
seems to be substantially less customisable than 2002. How can I permanently
get rid of the "Favorite Folders" display in the top left-hand corner for
example? All I want is my list of All Mail Folders.

Thanks

You can't. Sorry.

You can't in the Mail view, but you could certainly switch to the Folder
List view.

Right, I've discovered that, but it resets itself every time I re-open
Outlook again to display the Favorite Folders again, right? I.e. there's no
way of changing the settings so that it opens in Folder List view?

Thanks

For me, whatever view I had displaying when I close Outlook is the view that
displays again when I open it. Try a new mail profile or, with Outlook
closed, try deleting or renaming the file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\outcmd.dat.
