Mine does, how many .pst files do you have open and are you using Exchange
or POP3?

Definitely using POP3. Don't know what you mean by how many .pst files I
have open, though. I've got it set up for a personal email account with my
ISP, and whatever contacts and calendar info I use on a day-to-day basis, so
there's nothing too complicated in there.
I mean, it's not critical, just a nice feature. I don't even see it in the
"Add New Shortcut" menu, or the "Go" menu for that matter.

What folder are you in when you see this behavior? Mail? All folders?
Doesn't matter what folder I'm in. The little icon thingy for the Today
Screen that's supposed to be on the Outlook shortcut bar isn't there.
Actually... What I was thinking... Where does Outlook store it's mail
folders? Would they be in the hidden Application Data directory in the user
folder, or somewhere else? If I can find my mail and move it somewhere
else, I could uninstall Outlook, delete the remaining config files and start
from scratch. Might be the best bet.

noise about nothing.

Outlook data items are in %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook by default. Other files Outlook uses are in

So... If I wanted to back up my inbox and other mail folders, and start all
other Outlook settings from scratch, I'd basically move the .pst files to
another place, wipe out everything else and go from there? I've got my
contact list and calendar on my Pocket PC, so I don't see any of the other
files, except maybe my mail filters, being relevant.
I think something went wrong during installation (upgraded from 2002), cuz
things just aren't right.

That's the basic method, yes.
