Outlook 2003 SaveAllMIMENotJustHeaders - what does it really do?

Various web sites and posts here make reference to the Registry key
SaveAllMIMENotJustHeaders for Outlook 2003 so that the full email
source will appear in the "internet headers" of the Options dialog.

Unfortunately, nothing mentions what really happens behind the scenes.
If we turn on this option, does it increase the disk space needed to
store the email as I think it will?

Yes it does. Each message will take twice the amount of space to store.
For example, this setting was on by default during the beta test of Outlook
2003 and a 270KByte message took a little of 600KByte of PST storage.
