what would cause this "This item cannot be displayed in the reading pane.
The item has not been received from the server. This is what I get when
trying to get my email ?

The first part, can't be displayed in reading pane, generally means that you
have received an item based on a custom form. Never seen the second part.
Are you working with a POP/IMAP or Exchange account?

pop and roadrunner account, can get email fine in outlook express sometimes
in office outlook 2003. thanks for reply

out of curiosity, are you downloading headers only for your pop3 account?
(Check your send/receive group.)

I've seen this when I have a large number of emails to download when I
sign in, and I click on a message that has not been downloaded, _and_
the transfer has been stopped somehow (Outlook has gone offline for some
reason).

Simply downloading email from that account, or signing in to Outlook
again would get rid of the problem.
