hi, i'm trying to access my outlook 2003 pst files in
outlook 2000 and i'm not getting any success. isn't these
2003 pst files not backward compatible with previous
versions of outlook?

would there be any other way of being able to
read/convert outlook 2003 pst's into outlook 2000?

appreciate any help. thanks!

Outlook 2003 supports 2 types of personal folder (PST) files. The first is
(and default) is what has been nicknamed Unicode. The second is ANSI or
Personal Folders (Outlook 97-2002). You need the second flavor
(ANSI/Outlook 97-2002 type) to be compatible with earlier versions.

If you still have access to Outlook 2003, you can check what type by right
clicking on Personal Folders | Properties | Advanced button and take a look
at the format line.

i checked my personal folder's properties and yes, its
format is Personal Folders File. does that mean i should
be able to open outlook 2003's archived pst files in
outlook 2000? i didn't change anything from the start, so
why wasn't i able to access them?

heard from a friend that there a downloadable patch for
outlook 2000 that can convert/read outlook 2003 pst's. is
there such a thing?

appreciate the help! thanks!

nope. that is the new format (unicode) that is not backward compatible.
you would need to move the items to a new file. to create a compatible pst,
select file | new | outlook data file | outlook 97-2002 personal folders
file.

i'm not aware of any such patch.
