After installing Outlook 2003, the following dialog appeared everytime
I started it:
"Your personal address book could not be opened."
If I chose to browse for a personal address book & then canceled the
open dialog box, Outlook started. If I canceled the "personal address
book could not be opened dialog," Outlook terminated.
I solved the problem by copying a .PAB file to the computer & using it
when Outlook opened. Then I closed Outlook & searched the registry
for the name of that PAB (e.g., old.pab) & deleted the parent registry
key of the PAB entry. The deleted key had the form
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook\f855215f50751647b165c297d3c7d791]. (If
you're hesitant to hack the registry, you could first export the key &
save it before deleting it. If Outlook misbehaves after the deletion,
you could then restore the key.)
You may be able to correct the problem without first restoring a PAB
file by removing the registry key (assuming you can find the registry
key with the name of the PAB that Outlook wants--perhaps a search on
".pab" will yield it).
