Outlook 2003 - opening attachments takes long

I have a user on Office 2003 and when he's in Outlook
2003 and double-clicks an Office attachment (Word, Excel,
Power Point) it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a
minute to open the attachment. Others users have no
problems at all when opening attachments.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 but still
get the same behavior.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

One possible cause can occur with a local .OST that has not finished
sychronizing with the Exchange server.

What do you run for Virus protection on your Exchange
server? We use Symantec and it has to do whith when you
open an attachment Symantec trys to scan the attachment.
Outlook will then try back in 30 secs giving you your
delay.

try a email gateway from symantec and just put the client
on the exchange server and remove the Exchange plug in
for symantec.

I have found the possible solution to the problem. If you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed read the Microsoft KnowledgeBase item listed here

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;329820

(just cut and paste this address into your address field.)

It states when your turn off the Norton AV plug-in you will again have use of Word as your Outlook editor. IT WORKS
