Outlook 2003 occassionally stops checking email - must restart computer to fix

I use Mailwasher to clear viruses and junk mail off of my servers. Then I
check email with Outlook 2003. Occassionally, though not unfrequently
enough, Outlook stops checking email. I can still send email fine, but if I
click the Send/Receive button, nothing happens. If I click the down arrow
next to the button, none of my email accounts are showing.

If I restart my computer, this always solves the problem (though not a very
convenient solution). Then when I click the arrow next to the Send/Receive
button, all of my email accounts are there.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Are you using cache mode? We get similar issues with some bad main messages,
we use CA ETrust. Only solution at moment is to change from cache mode
delete the message then carry on.
Post a message how you go or if you solve it, I would be interested.

cheers

I don't even know what cache mode is. I'm not using anything different than
the default. I'm not part of an exchange server setup either. Just a
single user on Outlook 2003.

I'm not getting hung up on any particular message either. I'll just go to
check email and nothing happens. When I click the arrow next to the
Send/Receive button, none of my email accounts show up. I have to restart
(the computer, not outlook) to fix it.

OK no worries.
When you do a send receive is there any warning messages?
Outlook should provide a pop up windows with errors unless it is now hidden,
in the lower RHS corner you should see an exclamation mark? if so try double
clicking and looking at the error.

If it happens again go into Tools, E-mail accounts, view change existing
accounts. Select your server type in the main windows choose change, more
settings, along with all your settings for login name , e-mail server etc
there is a button to test it.
Run the test and look at the responses in the dialogue box for all steps
hopefully it should provide at least one error you can use to track it down.
If this is all OK and you get the test message sent then look at your event
viewer, look for anything to do with e-mail, outlook ,etc, might provide a
clue

I do not receive any warning messages at all. If I go into Email Accounts
and click Test Account Settings, everything is fine. I can send messages
just fine. But if I click Send/Receive, nothing happens at all. And none
of the accounts show up under the drop down arrow.
