Outlook 2003 - MAPI32.DLL corruption?

F

Freddie-D

Hi
OS: Windows XP Pro.
I have upgraded my computer, and am re-installing all my software to the new
pc. I used the Files & Settings Transfer Wizard. I have installed Ooutlook
2003, Excel 2003 and Word 2000 from disc, and registered/activated/validated
them all with Microsoft.
When trying to open Outlook 2003, I receive the message "Cannot start
Microsoft Outlook. MAPI32.dll is corrupt or the wrong version.........." etc.
Having searched this error, I found I must run the FIXMAPI.exe utility.
However, when I double click on it nothing happens. I have even tried
running it from Start>Run>C\Windows....etc.
I have looked for the utility on Windows/Microsoft site, but am unable to
find it - presumably as it is an integral part of Windows.
Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem? I use Outlook a lot, so
this issue is rather urgent.
Many thanks

Try deleting or renaming the current MAPI32.DLL (located in
%CommonProgramFiles%\system\MSMAPI\1033 on English versions of WIndows) and
then running Outlook's Help>Detect and Repair

Hi
Thanks for your response. I renamed the file as suggested, ran the detect
and repair from the installation disc, but still get the same message!
Frustrating or what!! Any other ideas? I can't open Outlook at all.

Hi

Getting desparate now! Have contacted the PC manufacturer as XP came
pre-loaded. They say the only answer is to re-install XP with their recovery
disc. This of course will over-write everything I have so far set up, and
take me back 28 man hours!

HELP! Is there not a Fixmapi.exe patch that I can download?

Have you tried a new mail profile? Control Panel->Mail Icon->Profiles->New. Do not copy the old one. Configure the new one to use your current .pst file.

Hi - thanks.

After hours of fiddling around, I discovered the problem. The new pc was
pre-loaded with a 60 day version of Office 2007, and SQL Server 2005. The
settings for 2007 were conflicting with the previous Outlook 2003 version.
Once I deleted the 2007 files and SQL in Control Panel, Outlook 2003 loaded
ok. I am now trawling through 27 emails received while I have been trying to
resolve the issue!!!

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with this.
