my Outlook 2003 suddenly has 17 Personal Folders named "Personal
Folders" and 5 "Local Folders" and 2 "new folders". Then, an error
or warning message comes up that says "This information service has
not been configured. Select an existing file to configure or type
the name of a new file to create. A dialog box comes up to select
or type a new file. But then the same error message keeps coming
up in an endless loop. I just installed a new iPAQ smartphone and
also downloaded a file by Jeyo, Inc. which allows for SMS
synchronization. I'm not sure what is going on with my Outlook but
I don't know how to fix it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
penciline

Do all these Personal Folders contain the same info, ie are they
identical/copies?
Or rt click Personal Folders, to select Properties>Advanced, do they all
point to the same data file?

It appears that the Outlook Profile has been corrupted in either installing
these third party tools, or in some snc process with your external devices
You can use the Mail Applet in the Control Panel to create a new Profile and
add your data file and the accounts.
By default the outlook data file is named outlook.pst, but yours could be
some other name, I suspect it would be the largest data file in the default
location

Penciline,

I'm having the same problem! Unfortunately I now seem to have hundreds
of these Personal Folders building up and I can't find a way of
deleting them except one at a time.

If you have made any progress please advise.

By the way is there a way to open Outlook without it insisting on
configuring a personal file? At the moment I am forced into a loop
where I am required to create a personal folder pst and then it tells
me that the information file hasn't been configured and returns to the
folder requesting the name of a personal folder.

Any help welcome

I'm pleased to report that I got out of my mess looping and creating
multiple personal folders by deleting my existing mail account and
creating a new one.

Success after hours of head banging / gouging / desparation

Hope this helps others
